The Berine and Bokwe Foundation (BEBOF) joined partners and stakeholders in Buea for the regional launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, an annual global campaign observed from 25 November to 10 December, ending on Human Rights Day.
This year’s campaign was held under the theme “End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls,” drawing attention to the growing forms of violence, harassment, abuse, and exploitation experienced by women and girls in digital spaces.
The regional launch brought together partners, implementing organizations, and other stakeholders committed to preventing gender-based violence, promoting gender equality, and protecting women and girls. Among those present were Revive Action Cameroon (REVACAM), WHRI Network, Mike Yanou Foundation, Street Child of Cameroon, UNFPA Cameroon, UNICEF Cameroon, Plan International Cameroon, GBV Prevention Network, Children Educational and Empowerment Association, Cameroon Alert GBV, Welisane Foundation, and other partners.
The gathering provided an opportunity for stakeholders to reaffirm their collective commitment to addressing gender-based violence, with particular attention to the growing forms of violence experienced by women and girls in digital spaces.
Participants emphasized the importance of educating communities about what digital violence is, how it can be prevented, and how women and girls can stay safe online.
Stakeholders were also encouraged to intensify sensitization and awareness-raising efforts throughout the 16 Days campaign, reaching schools, communities, institutions, families, and other spaces where meaningful conversations about gender-based violence and digital safety can take place.
As digital technologies continue to play an increasingly important role in everyday life, addressing online violence is essential to ensuring that women and girls can participate in digital spaces safely, freely, and without fear of abuse.
Through collective action and continued community engagement, participating organizations are working towards creating safer, more inclusive, and violence-free spaces for women and girls, both online and offline.
BEBOF remains committed to working alongside partners, communities, and other stakeholders to strengthen awareness, promote prevention, and contribute to efforts aimed at ending gender-based violence in all its forms.
