At the Berine and Bokwe Foundation, we believe that true learning extends beyond the classroom and is most impactful when paired with hands-on experience. This philosophy underpins our Regenerative Agriculture Project in Penaboko, where we are committed to empowering local women with the skills and knowledge needed for sustainable farming.
In collaboration with agricultural experts and technicians, we launched an intensive training program designed to equip the women of Penaboko with sustainable farming techniques. The training began with an in-depth indoor lecture, where participants were introduced to the principles and practices of regenerative agriculture. This classroom session covered essential topics such as soil health, water management, crop rotation, and the use of organic fertilizers.
However, we understand that theory alone is not enough. To ensure that the women could effectively apply what they had learned, we transitioned from the classroom to the field. In the practical sessions, participants were guided through hands-on activities, allowing them to directly experiment with and implement the sustainable farming techniques discussed in the lecture. This real-world application is crucial in helping them gain confidence and mastery in their new skills.
The Regenerative Agriculture Project is more than just a training initiative; it is a step towards building resilience and self-sufficiency within the Penaboko community. By empowering women with practical knowledge and skills, we are helping them secure a sustainable livelihood, improve food security, and contribute to the overall well-being of their families and community.
We are incredibly grateful to our partner, One Day’s Wages, whose generous support has made this project possible. Together, we are planting the seeds for a brighter, more sustainable future for the women of Penaboko and their community.
