Following our recent visit to Matoh, the Berine and Bokwe Foundation team uncovered some alarming truths that highlight a dire situation. It is heartbreaking to report that the only health center in Matoh is in a severely dilapidated state. The lack of adequate health facilities and essential drugs puts the lives of both pregnant women and local residents at constant risk.

Due to the poor state of the local health center, many pregnant women are forced to travel to Kumba town, which is approximately a four-hour journey from Matoh. This arduous journey is often undertaken on treacherous roads, significantly increasing the risks for these women and their unborn children. Tragically, a significant number of these women end up losing their lives or their babies due to the unsafe travel conditions and delayed medical attention.

The current situation in Matoh poses a serious threat to maternal health and has led to a rise in maternal mortality. The absence of reliable healthcare services and the critical state of infrastructure are urgent issues that need immediate attention.

At the Berine and Bokwe Foundation, we are committed to addressing these challenges. We aim to raise awareness about the dire healthcare situation in Matoh and mobilize resources to improve the health center, ensuring it is equipped with the necessary facilities and medications. Our goal is to provide accessible and quality healthcare to the residents of Matuah, particularly to the vulnerable population of pregnant women.

We call upon our supporters, partners, and the broader community to join us in this critical mission to save lives and improve health outcomes in Matoh. Together, we can make a significant difference and bring hope to this deserving community.
